Exclusionary Screens
FSM will not invest in companies that derive any revenues related to:
- nuclear weapons or nuclear weapons delivery systems production, or manufacture or sale of biological or chemical weapons
- abortifacients production (e.g., producers of the RU-486 abortion pill)
- infant formula production
- for-profit health care providers (i.e., hospitals, physician practices, HMOs)
FSM will not invest in companies that derive substantial revenues (i.e., more than 10% of total revenue or $10 million) related to:
- conventional weapons contracting (military/defense)
- alcoholic beverage production
- tobacco or tobacco-related production
- goods or services related to the gaming or lottery industries (gambling)
- guns, including production, distribution or retail sales
- nuclear power facility ownership or management or related materials or fuel production (exclude utility companies with nuclear power facilities)
- other companies identified as inappropriate for investment.
The Franciscan Sisters of Mary also avoids companies that have business operations in countries whose governments exhibit a systemic and serious pattern of violating the human rights of their citizens.
