Delight
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4)
What brings you delight?
The music and peace of a summer’s evening? A child’s face as he or she opens a gift? Burying your face in the warmth of a fluffy towel just out of the dryer? The aroma of freshly baked bread or a pan of brownies? The breath-taking view from a mountain overlooking the sea? The joy of a best friend’s smile?
Many things can bring us delight if we are open to the world and see the abundance of God’s gifts to us each day.
The psalmist urges us, not to some sort of hedonism in which we expect that our every passing desire will be fulfilled, but to an appreciation and a gratitude for all that is good in life and in the world. By noticing and thanking God for those blessings, we open our hearts to all that lies ahead.
