Christmas Present

We all cherish memories of Christmases past—the fresh pine scent of the tree, the aroma of baking cookies, favorite carols, cards mailed to friends far away but never forgotten, gifts from dear ones, the nativity scene that fills our hearts with peace and good will.
As time moves on, though, we recognize that some of our treasured memories are no longer much a part of our Christmas “present.” Rushing, shopping, meeting social obligations all crowd out the stillness of that first silent night.
What are you anticipating this Christmas?
This advent, let’s slow down. Become aware of God’s surprising presence. This Christmas, let’s try to be truly present in all our interactions—with one another, with nature, and with God.
