Let's be open and aware of those "teaching" moments!

August 06, 2007

As some schools open this week, we're reminded of the wonderful gift of learning. It broadens our world, opens up opportunities, and provides challenge for self-improvement. While some students may be anything but enthusiastic as they board the school bus each day, there are some who never tire of learning.

The following Indian saying promotes the value of education:

If you plan for one year, plant rice.

If you plan for ten years, plant trees.

If you plan for a hundred years, educate people.

Learning doesn't always mean formal education sessions. There are times when we stretch our minds by simply talking to someone with whom we're not familiar or engaging in a new experience. Yes, there is something positive about the gift of learning, however it presents itself to us.

As we go about each day, let's be open and aware of those "teaching" moments! Let's also say a prayer for all teachers, that they're gifted with endless patience, wisdom and creativity.
